10 Songs from First Aid Kit

We asked First Aid Kit for 10 songs they're currently listening to and they obliged. They play The Deaf Institute on 16th July... You can buy tickets here

Sometimes I Think Age Is A Treasure - Turid

This song is from a record from 1971. It's a young Swedish woman named Turid who sings about the pleasures of getting older. She's been called the "Swedish Vashti Bunyan". We love her lyrics.

Motel Blues - Loudon Wainwright
We heard this tune for the first time when we were in our car traveling to a Swedish festival a couple of weeks ago. It was on a mixtape our drummer had made. It's just one of those songs that punch you right in the fucking heart.

Rebecca - Jo Rose
We first met Jo Rose last time we played the Deaf Institute when he was a guest with The Travelling Band who were supporting us that night. We're really thrilled to have him support us for this upcoming gig. This song, amongst others, is a gem.

White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
Psychedelic, just the way we like it.

Soft Skin - Mountain Man
These girls were recently compared to us in Swedish media so we had to check them out. This track is brilliant, so haunting. We love that they also work with very little instrumentation. It's inspiring to hear someone pull it off so well.

Ribbon Bows - Joanna Newsom
Joanna Newsom writes magical songs. She proves this once again, with her latest record. Ribbon Bows takes you beautiful places. It's a journey and at the end you don't know how you ended up there. We blinked twice.

Senza Fine - Gianfranco Reverberi
"My Life Without Me" is a film we first saw a long time ago, by director Isabel Coxiet. It tells the story of a young woman who finds out she has only two more months to live and writes a list of what she wants to do before she dies. This song is in this movie and it's very romantic and Italian. Simple and lovely.

See Here, She Said - Kate Wolf
Kate Wolf - 'nuff said.

Trouble - Elliott Smith
This song, like most Elliott songs, makes us cry and feel miserable. It might be a Cat Stevens cover, but we're not entirely sure.

Will The Weaver - Almeda Riddle
Almeda Riddle sings old folk tunes acapella and does it like no one else. This is one of our favorite recordings of her. It's a tragical and violent story of infidelity. We guess it's supposed to be funny too, but it's mostly just really sad.
